These .049" thick shims insert between the roof frame and the front mounting plate to easily adjust the roof upwards, relieving unwanted pressure on the front of the roof panel.
- Stainless steel
- CNC cut
- Made in the USA
- Saves time
- Easy install
How to install-
- Mark the frame around the plate with a sharp pencil (we'll use this mark later to tighten the plate down in the same spot)
- Loosen the two bolts attaching the locating plate to the frame
- Insert shim
- Tighten bolts making sure plate is aligned with pencil marking in step 1
- Repeat step on other side if necessary
Why do I need this? - GM adjusted these tops on the assembly line. However, over the past 40 years vehicles have been in accidents, roof panels have been replaced, and windshield/ rear roof weatherstrips (the biggest source of most people's problems) have been replaced with thick, dense low cost replacements. These new weatherstrips lack the compressibility the OEM weatherstrips had, so instead of "squeezing down", the weatherstrip exerts the force directly back into the lens. Couple this with the fact these roofs are drawn down with bolts at each front corner, it creates a bending effect at the middle causing the lens to eventually split. These shims are a low cost option to alleviate that pressure.
